m83 hurry up, we're dreaming
double lp design
M83's 2011 album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is reminiscent and transcendent in tone, all about how teenage years are the best of our lives. It evokes deep feelings of nostalgia, making listeners wish they were back in those simpler times.
I was drawn to the relationship between the “younger self” and the “current self”. I strove to express the mental transformation of acknowledging the nostalgia of youth while accepting adulthood through generated abstract visuals.
Intricate 3D geometric shapes are symbolic of young spirit. Some have fills and others don’t. This evokes vulnerability in the shapes that are composed of strokes, they are unprotected and ignorant to all of the trials and tribulations that come with age, ones that we are oblivious to when we are young. Thick bars represent how adulthood is conveyed as caging in youthful nature in the music. Throughout the four panels of this design the shapes go through a journey and eventually break free from the bars, acknowledging youth and accepting adulthood.
